I'm looking for a puppy. I have breed restrictions so no pits or boxers. I'm very specific, so the puppy must meet the following
1: intelligent. I need a smart dog, I'm not a good trainer so stupid plus stupid is just frustrating of both parties
2: attentive. The puppy needs to be tuned into you! If you clap your hands and agh! Which one looks at you? I mean really looks at you? The one who recognizes your the leader?
3: not an alpha! I have a dog who is not alpha, I don't want a puppy who will try to lord over Cooder. The puppy needs to be able to recognize the totem pole order. My mom, me, Cooder, puppy.
4: low energy please. Nothing crazy like a husky (sorry furry babies!) my mom works full tim + part time, and I work part time. I don't have the energy to walk/run 45 mins twice a day. I like a dog who enjoys simple walks and can handle long hikes when I go camping
5: wants to be with you. I want a dog who wants love and attention, not a dog who ignores me
6: knee height. I don't have a horse because I can't afford to feed one, nonetheless a dog that is the size of one.
7: guard. Most of all I'm a country girl, my dog has a job. And that is protecting me and my house if puppy won't take that job I won't take the puppy.
These 'requirements' may seem drastic and unfair to you, but I know myself and I know what I need/handle/afford. But setting these standards keeps me from getting a puppy who turns into a dog I don't like. And I won't keep a dog I don't like. And I hate it when dogs hop from home to home. I need a puppy that matches me, so that I can provide it with the forever home puppy deserves.
